چکیده

The stubborn set method is one of the methods that try to relieve the state space explosion problem that occurs in state space generation. Spending some time in looking for \good" stubborn sets can pay oo in the total time spent in generating a reduced state space. This paper shows how the method can exploit tools that solve certain problems of logic programs. The restriction of a deenition of stubbornness to a given state can be translated into a variable-free logic program. When a stubborn set satisfying additional constraints is wanted, the additional constraints should be translated, too. It is easy to make the translation in such a way that each acceptable stubborn set of the state is represented by at least one stable model of the program, each stable model of the program represents at least one acceptable stubborn set of the state, and for each pair in the representation relation, the number of certain atoms in the stable model is equal to the number of enabled transitions of the represented stubborn set. So, in order to nd a stubborn set which is good w.r.t. the number of enabled transitions, it suuces to nd a stable model which is good w.r.t. the number of certain atoms.

Deadlock Detection with Stubborn Unfoldings

Stubborn sets and model unfolding are two well-known methods for sidestepping the complexity of state-space exploration based on formal models of concurrent programs, such as Labeled Transition Systems and Petri nets. Here we define a deadlock detection strategy that combines these two methods. We also show that the resulting method, stubborn unfoldings, can produce smaller state space represen...

Stubborn Sets for Fully Observable Nondeterministic Planning

The stubborn set method is a state-space reduction technique, originally introduced in model checking and then transfered to classical planning. It was shown that stubborn sets significantly improve the performance of optimal deterministic planners by considering only a subset of applicable operators in a state. Fully observable nondeterministic planning (FOND) extends the formalism of classica...

Efficient Stubborn Sets: Generalized Algorithms and Selection Strategies

Strong stubborn sets have recently been analyzed and successfully applied as a pruning technique for planning as heuristic search. Strong stubborn sets are defined declaratively as constraints over operator sets. We show how these constraints can be relaxed to offer more freedom in choosing stubborn sets while maintaining the correctness and optimality of the approach. In general, many operator...

On Computing Symmetries and Stubborn Sets on Computing Symmetries and Stubborn Sets

In this report, we consider two promising methods for alleviating the state space explosion problem in reachability analysis: the symmetry method and the stubborn set method. We concentrate on the computation of symmetries and stubborn sets. The new algorithms presented in this report help us to save time and space in the symmetry method and to avoid inspecting redundant states in the so called...

Advances on the List Stubborn Problem

The 4-partition problem is defined as partitioning the vertex set of a graph G into at most 4 parts A, B, C, D, where each part is not required to be nonempty, and is a stable set, a clique, or has no restriction; and pairs of distinct parts are completely nonadjacent, completely adjacent, or arbitrarily adjacent. The list 4-partition problem generalizes the 4-partition problem by specifying fo...
